About Amy Mann
I'm an artist whose work is shaped by overcoming significant health challenges.
In 2018, I received a heart transplant after years of living with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). That gift, a stranger’s heart gave me a second chance at life.
It gave me time.
It gave me art.
In the thick of post-transplant life, I needed something that wasn’t about medicine or survival. I needed something that was just mine. I picked up a brush and everything changed.
Art became my way back to myself.
It gave shape to emotions I didn’t have words for: the fear, the grief, the gratitude, the transformation. I paint from experience - raw, symbolic, and emotionally layered. Some pieces reflect my transplant directly, featuring anatomical hearts and hummingbirds (which represent my donor’s presence). Others are more abstract, snapshots of memory, energy, or healing. I mostly work in acrylics and often mix in other materials to add texture and meaning.
My style blends whimsy with depth. It’s playful at times, but always honest.
Every painting holds a piece of my journey.
Beyond painting, I advocate for heart transplant and HCM awareness and coach others navigating their own transplant paths. I know how easy it is to lose yourself in the identity of being a patient.
Art helped me remember who I am.
If you’re living with chronic illness or recovering from a major life shift, I can’t recommend creative expression enough. It doesn’t have to be perfect; it just has to be honest.
My story beats in every piece I create.
